We all slept until 9:30 - Cleaned part of the house this A.M. - Gladys & Cindy came down & took Billy & I along to Williams Farm - I got tomatoes - cucumbers - green beans & corn - Finished cleaning house this P.M. - Stayed home tonite - John Parrish came over & I wasn't very friendly to him - thought about going to a movie but didn't. Watched Miss Va. Pageant.

Str. up house this A.M. - then used the push mower & done a lot of trimming - then after lunch I mowed with the rider - it really was hot - I quit about 4:00 - had a terrible headache - Hank finished when he came home - I took a shower & gave Billy a bath - got dressed up & we went to Tastee Freez & ate - went to Ingleside & picked up lawn mower part - went to Crawford House & looked at sofas - went to King's - Billy got a battery operated Spook House - Saw Virginia & Gene Kane - Hank got paint at DuPont for picnic table. Watched Alfred Hitchcock.

I went to the Commissary & Ship's Serv. this A.M. - Gladys kept Billy - Got a necklace & earring set for Linda Ann. Came home & put groceries up. Cleaned cupboard above the stove - after lunch we picked Gladys & Cindy up - took her down to the Medical Tower & she had her eyes checked - I kept Cindy & Billy - George brought Hank to their place & then he came home with me. Had supper early - Feldt came by & him, Hank & Billy went to Ingleside to see about repairing Feldt's mower. Ruby came over for coffee - I wasn't too friendly - Watched tv & went to bed.

Up at 6:15 - Billy was having a coughing spell - went back to bed at 7:00 & slept until about 8:00 - Pam didn't get up until 9:30 - She ate here then went home - I done dishes - weeded flower bed - Hank mowed the sewer lines - Pam came back here for lunch - This P.M. we took a ride - stopped at Crawford House & Furniture Fare & window shopped - Stopped at Farm Fresh & got a watermelon - I felt bad all day - was worn out - Mrs. Ranhorne came down for awhile before supper - Hank cooked steaks out - had potatoe salad - zucchini squash - sliced tomatoes - cucumbers - steak & watermelon. Set off some firecrackers tonite - Pam stayed here - didn't get supper dishes done until 9:30 - bed at 10:30.

Up at 9:00 - acted like rain but I fixed the chicken - made potato salad & deviled eggs - finally cleared off so we packed a picnic dinner & left about 1:30 - Went down Rt. 17 - finally got a table in N.C. - the biting flys were terrible - never got to fish as it started raining - home about 5:00 - Pam came over & I took her to Overton's - done dishes - fixed Billy hot dogs - we all had cake & ice cream - Pam watched Sat. Nite Movie - I saw part of it but couldn't stay awake - I was awake half the night - slept in Billy's room & run the vaporizer all night - he had croup - was real restless.

Billy's Birthday -
Baked Billy's birthday cake this A.M. - Double Dutch Devils Food - made 7 minute icing - made it into a loaf cake so I could get the train on it - decorated it. Called Betty Smith & Mrs. Pipkin to invite kids to the party. Little Adrian came up while we were eating bkfst. - Kitty came after him. Gladys called - Ruby called this A.M. at 8:00 & said they were leaving for N.C. - We agreed to keep Pam - Wrapped Billy's gift - Hank got him a fishing pole. Had the party outside about 2:30 - Kitty, Gladys & Betty Smith were here - also Cindy, Kathy Smith, Teenie, Mark, Scott & Roxanne Pipkin - Hank helped - he served the drinks. Didn't have much supper - Billy & I ate hot dogs - Gladys & Cindy came down & took Billy & I with them to Williams Farm - got cucumbers & tomatoes - Stopped at Gladys's & took half of her potatoes (78 cents). Cooked potatoes & eggs for salad - washed & set my hair - Pam stayed with Sharon Hildebrand - Billy got cards from Mom & Dad - Dowlings - Dr. Clark - Cindy - Pipkins (2) - $1.00 from Pam & Dowlings -

Washed 2 loads of clothes this A.M. - Called C&P about phone bill & Termite Co. about holes in house - Went to Kitty's a few minutes - Billy & Adrian played together all A.M. - Cleaned the whole house today - mopped & waxed the kitchen & bathroom floors - Cleaned up tar in kitchen - living room & hall. After supper I gave Billy a bath - Went to Colonial & the drugstore - also the egg factory.

Got stuff for Billy's Birthday party - ironing cord holder - white headband - tracing wheel & groceries - Home at 9:15 - Sheehan came soon as we got home. Wrote out a couple cks. - wrote in diary - bed at 11:00.

Had fish sticks - raw fried potatoes - green beans - salad - tomatoes & biscuits - pie & coffee. Hank & Welad went gun trading after supper - got back about 9:30 - Kitty came up awhile - Libb & I visited - Got to bed at 12:30.

Up at 6:30 - Got bkfst. for all of us except Billy - he was still asleep - packed a lunch for Maurell & Mary - they left at 7:55 A.M. - I felt real bad today - felt so lost & depressed - cried nearly all A.M. - Washed 3 loads - went to Ruby's for coffee - Hank home for lunch - Billy & I went to Kitty's after lunch - just got home when Ruby came & asked us to go to the beach - had to get bathing suit from attic - Went to Chesapeake Beach - home at 4:00 - gave Billy a bath & I took a shower - got clothes in & got supper - made our bed - sat in Ruby's backyard awhile - home about 8:30 - watched tv & wrote in diary.

Maurell & Mary got here about 11:00 - hadn't been here long when Hank got home - Hunter brought him - Ate dinner about 1:30 - We all rode down to Sears Warehouse - then went to the base - went to the Commissary - they waited outside while I went in & got milk - sausage & cottage cheese & orange juice - rode around on the base awhile - Stopped at Bayside - Mary & I went in the drugstore - dimestore & Colonial - had hamburgers - potato salad & toss salad for supper - Mary & I went to Ruby's a few minutes after supper - Called Mom & Dad tonite to let them know Maurell & Mary were here -
Bed about 11:00 - Rained pretty hard tonite -

Up at 6:45 - Ironed this A.M. - Ruby came over for coffee - Went to Kitty's this A.M. but she was gone - mowed part of the lawn after lunch - went to Kitty's & took her pillow cases & perfume - came home & cleaned the steam iron - fixed scalloped potatoes - salmon & fresh green beans for supper - finished the ironing - Was getting supper about 4:00 when Maurell called - he said they were in White Sulpher Springs & would be here tomorrow morning sometime - I was shocked & tickled to death - Hank mowed before & after supper - I had just finished dishes & was talking to Gladys when John & Ann Berry & 2 girls came - They stayed until 9:00 - Hank went after groceries - I cleaned out the back bedroom - str. up house - wrote in diary - gave Billy a bath - I took a shower.

Hank had duty today but came home about 5:45 - Feldt stood by for him tonite - Washed 5 loads - Hank brought coffee home this A.M. -
Esso came & cleaned the furnace - Went to Guthrie's awhile this P.M. - also to Ruby's - washed & set my hair - got clothes in & done the dry ironing - Billy had a pot pie for supper & I had left over roast. Went to GEX tonite - looked at sofas & swim suits - a little interested in sofa & chair for $249.96 - home at 9:30 - made Billy's bed & folded the towels - Wrote in diary.

Defrosted the freezer in the garage this A.M. & washed it out with baking soda - kept the house shut up all day to keep the heat out - Cleaned the house from end to end - made a chocolate pie - Ruby was over for coffee this P.M. - Sat in Ruby's backyard awhile after supper - then we went to Colonial - took Jimmy along - I got cabbage - lettuce - squash - cucumber - tomotoes & radishes - got ice cream at Overton's - gave Billy a bath & I took a shower - started a letter home.

Up at 7:20 - Hank & I took showers - Got ready & got Billy ready - He was so thrilled to be in the motel - had coffee in the room - ate bkfst. down the road a little ways at a truck stop - real slow service - drove to Story Book Land & spent the morning there - a real nice place - then went to Arlington Cemetary & saw Kennedy's grave - drove around Washington a little bit - terribly hot - ate in Alexandria at a drive-in - drove down to Mt. Vernon & went through Washington's home - then drove back to Fredericksburg & stayed at the Thomas Jefferson Motel - $12.00 - Ate supper at Howard Johnson's - Went to a drugstore & got 4¢ stamps - Watched a movie tonight - "Asphalt Jungle" -
