Up at 8:30 - Rainy & cloudy this A.M. - Fixed French toast for bkfst. - Jim came over about 11:00 & asked us to go to Arrowhead Beach with them - took hamburgers, hot dogs - pork & beans - tomatoes & cucumbers - left at 12:00 - we drove our own car - Jimmy went with us - after we ate we went in the water for awhile - saw Jim & Ruby's lot - home at 9:30 - gave Billy a bath & fed him a bite - I took a shower - bed at 10:30.

Up at 7:45 - Hank was just coming in the door from taking Welad back to camp - Cleaned house this A.M. - Cleaned & cooked a mess of beans - Hank went to see a lawyer about handling Dowlings lot for us - ordered a new burner for the stove & took the big electric frying pan in to have it over-hauled. This P.M. we went to Dowlings - it poured down rain - Merilyn was there - Catherine, Merilyn & Billy & I went to a little carnival nearby but it had folded up due to rain - Fred & Hank took the deed to Powell. We helped Merilyn get stuff down from the attic - left about 6:00 - ate supper at Burger Chef - made pop corn tonite - Watched tv - fell asleep watching Gunsmoke - bed 11:00.

Welad got up at 8:30 - he stayed around here until 10:00 - after he left I washed & set my hair - Kitty came up & brought some peaches - washed 2 loads - run the sweeper over kitchen - living room - hall & bath. Went to Hurds tonite & ate supper - then went to Amusement Park at Va. Beach - Billy rode nearly every ride - Home about 9:45 -

Up at 7:20 - Felt real stiff & worn out from the beach yesterday - Didn't do anything this A.M. - Billy got up at 8:00 & Welad at 8:30 - Got bkfst. & done dishes - Welad & I talked all morning - Hank got off at noon - after lunch him & Welad took Billy & I out to Lynnhaven Beach - then they went to Va. Beach to see about some parts for David's car - they picked us up at 4:30 - gave Billy a bath & I took a shower when we got home - Hank cooked steaks & hot dogs out - I fixed corn on the cob - French Fried potatoes - zucchini squash - sliced tomatoes - cucumbers & green pepper & biscuits - done with dishes at 8:00 - Billy went to Farm Fresh with Humblets - I went over & got some tomatoes from Ruby - Hank - Welad & Billy went to Colonial - bed at 11:30 -

Up at 6:00 - Hank had today off - I fried chicken for our picnic - got bkfst. & done dishes & packed our picnic dinner - we left at 8:45 for Nags Head - got down there about 11:00 - took Welad to see the Wright Bros. Monument - then we looked up Dowlings lot that we are planning on buying - It is located on Durham St. - went down to the picnic area at Cape Hatteras Nat'l. Pk. & ate our dinner - nice & cool there - went swimming after we ate - Welad had forgotten his suit - we had a time kidding him about women asking for the time - home at 7:30 - got supper - gave Billy a bath & then we all took baths - Called Catherine & Gladys - bed at 11:15 -

I ironed this A.M. - had most of it done when Billy got up at 8:30 - Welad slept until 10:30 - Got 2 bkfsts. - didn't get much done today - Hank came home for lunch - We took him back - Stopped at High's for ice cream - Welad went away for awhile this P.M. - I finished the ironing - Billy got caught in a downpour - rained in every room except Billy's - had supper at 5:15 - had swiss steak - potatoes & gravy - summer squash - green beans & tomatoes - cucumber & green pepper.
Ruby came over for coffee - Went to egg factory & Colonial - got chicken. Made potato salad & deviled eggs - Cleaned chicken.

Up at 6:45 - Washed today - had quite a bit - also done a handwashing - Hank came home for lunch - Ruby invited me over for coffee - got clothes in & folded this P.M. - beds remade - cleaned & cooked a mess of green beans - held up supper until 6:30 but Welad didn't show up so went ahead & ate - just had dishes done when he called - we went after him - I got supper for him - 2 hamburgers - green beans - corn on cob - tomatoes & cucumbers. Didn't go anywhere today - I took a shower & washed & set my hair this A.M. - Billy was sick all morning - he vomited several times - Dowlings came this P.M. - Catherine - Billy & I went to Colonial - got ice cream - cookies & biscuits - for lunch I made some doughnuts out of the biscuits - they left about 7:30 - went to Jim & Ruby's for awhile - came home about 8:30 & I made a pizza - watched tv awhile - went to bed at 10:30.

Str. up house this A.M. - then used the push mower & done a lot of trimming - then after lunch I mowed with the rider - it really was hot - I quit about 4:00 - had a terrible headache - Hank finished when he came home - I took a shower & gave Billy a bath - got dressed up & we went to Tastee Freez & ate - went to Ingleside & picked up lawn mower part - went to Crawford House & looked at sofas - went to King's - Billy got a battery operated Spook House - Saw Virginia & Gene Kane - Hank got paint at DuPont for picnic table. Watched Alfred Hitchcock.

I went to the Commissary & Ship's Serv. this A.M. - Gladys kept Billy - Got a necklace & earring set for Linda Ann. Came home & put groceries up. Cleaned cupboard above the stove - after lunch we picked Gladys & Cindy up - took her down to the Medical Tower & she had her eyes checked - I kept Cindy & Billy - George brought Hank to their place & then he came home with me. Had supper early - Feldt came by & him, Hank & Billy went to Ingleside to see about repairing Feldt's mower. Ruby came over for coffee - I wasn't too friendly - Watched tv & went to bed.

Billy slept until 8:45 - I typed a letter to Mom & Dad - fixed bacon & eggs for breakfast - finished letter after bkfst. - wrote ck. on phone bill & sent ck. & letter to the Grundy Register - went to Ruby's a few minutes - Hank called & said he has the duty - Cleaned whole house this P.M. - Gladys & Cindy came down - weeded out Billy's toys in his room - Billy had pot pie for supper & I had 5 ears of corn - leftover bar-b-Q & sliced tomatoes - done dishes - sat on front porch & caught up in diary - Billy & Jimmy played out front - went to Kitty's awhile & then to Ruby's to get Billy - Hank came home & ate & we took him back to the base - Watched tv after I got back.

Up at 6:15 - Billy was having a coughing spell - went back to bed at 7:00 & slept until about 8:00 - Pam didn't get up until 9:30 - She ate here then went home - I done dishes - weeded flower bed - Hank mowed the sewer lines - Pam came back here for lunch - This P.M. we took a ride - stopped at Crawford House & Furniture Fare & window shopped - Stopped at Farm Fresh & got a watermelon - I felt bad all day - was worn out - Mrs. Ranhorne came down for awhile before supper - Hank cooked steaks out - had potatoe salad - zucchini squash - sliced tomatoes - cucumbers - steak & watermelon. Set off some firecrackers tonite - Pam stayed here - didn't get supper dishes done until 9:30 - bed at 10:30.

Up at 9:00 - acted like rain but I fixed the chicken - made potato salad & deviled eggs - finally cleared off so we packed a picnic dinner & left about 1:30 - Went down Rt. 17 - finally got a table in N.C. - the biting flys were terrible - never got to fish as it started raining - home about 5:00 - Pam came over & I took her to Overton's - done dishes - fixed Billy hot dogs - we all had cake & ice cream - Pam watched Sat. Nite Movie - I saw part of it but couldn't stay awake - I was awake half the night - slept in Billy's room & run the vaporizer all night - he had croup - was real restless.

Billy's Birthday -
Baked Billy's birthday cake this A.M. - Double Dutch Devils Food - made 7 minute icing - made it into a loaf cake so I could get the train on it - decorated it. Called Betty Smith & Mrs. Pipkin to invite kids to the party. Little Adrian came up while we were eating bkfst. - Kitty came after him. Gladys called - Ruby called this A.M. at 8:00 & said they were leaving for N.C. - We agreed to keep Pam - Wrapped Billy's gift - Hank got him a fishing pole. Had the party outside about 2:30 - Kitty, Gladys & Betty Smith were here - also Cindy, Kathy Smith, Teenie, Mark, Scott & Roxanne Pipkin - Hank helped - he served the drinks. Didn't have much supper - Billy & I ate hot dogs - Gladys & Cindy came down & took Billy & I with them to Williams Farm - got cucumbers & tomatoes - Stopped at Gladys's & took half of her potatoes (78 cents). Cooked potatoes & eggs for salad - washed & set my hair - Pam stayed with Sharon Hildebrand - Billy got cards from Mom & Dad - Dowlings - Dr. Clark - Cindy - Pipkins (2) - $1.00 from Pam & Dowlings -

Washed 2 loads of clothes this A.M. - Called C&P about phone bill & Termite Co. about holes in house - Went to Kitty's a few minutes - Billy & Adrian played together all A.M. - Cleaned the whole house today - mopped & waxed the kitchen & bathroom floors - Cleaned up tar in kitchen - living room & hall. After supper I gave Billy a bath - Went to Colonial & the drugstore - also the egg factory.

Str. up house - caught up diary - Billy slept until 8:30 - We had a dental appt. at 11:00 - Stopped at Gladys's a minute on the way & I asked her about going to beach - had to wait an hr. to get in - Billy got in at 12:00 - his teeth were okay & so were mine - ate lunch at Burger Chef - Stopped in at Gladys's again & she said she would go to the beach - came home & changed - picked them up at 2:30 & went to Little Creek Beach - Ronnie went along - home at 4:30 - Gave Billy a bath & I took a shower - washed out suits - went to Ruby's after supper - sat out back - Hank got home about 9:00 - bed at 10:30 -

Up at 6:30 - Ironed this A.M. until 11:20 - then str. up the house - painted the jug by the fireplace with clear Cryst-L-Craze & a vase orange - vacuumed the bedrooms - hall - bath & kitchen this P.M. - re-arranged our room - gave Billy a bath before supper - tonite we went to Janaf - Kresge's - Grants - Singer & Giant Food. Got stuff for Billy's Birthday party - ironing cord holder - white headband - tracing wheel & groceries - Home at 9:15 - Sheehan came soon as we got home. Wrote out a couple cks. - wrote in diary - bed at 11:00.

Hank & Welad went gun trading after supper - got back about 9:30 - Kitty came up awhile - Libb & I visited - Got to bed at 12:30.

Up 6:30 - took Hank to work - left Billy at Ruby's - went to the Commissary - saw Mildred Munson there - home at 9:00 - went to Ruby's to get Billy & had coffee & doughnuts - Billy stayed with Ruby while I went to Ships Serv. - tried on 2 bathing suits but didn't get any - got soap & toothpaste - home at 10:45 - Gladys called - put groceries away - after lunch Ruby & Jimmy went with us to the Exchange at the Air Station - I got a Jantzen swim suit for $12.49 - went to NOB Exchange but Ruby couldn't find one - home at 3:45 - then went to Gladys's a minute & returned Cindy's doll - picked Hank up at 4:15 - Billy got home as soon as we got home - Hank done some mowing -

Washed Billy's hair -
Hot & humid
Up at 6:30 - Washed & set my hair this A.M. - also ironed - Ruby came over for coffee - Avon woman came at noon - Gladys & Cindy came this P.M. - Stayed until 3:00 - Hank came home while Gladys was here - After she left I laid in Billy's room & read the paper - so hot today - after supper we rode out to Meixel's but they were closed - Went to High's & got ice cream cones - home at 8:30 - gave Billy a bath & washed his hair - Watched tv - sewed button on Hank's shirt - bed at 11:00 -

Maurell's left
Hot - not quite as humid
Up at 6:30 - Got bkfst. for all of us except Billy - he was still asleep - packed a lunch for Maurell & Mary - they left at 7:55 A.M. - I felt real bad today - felt so lost & depressed - cried nearly all A.M. - Washed 3 loads - went to Ruby's for coffee - Hank home for lunch - Billy & I went to Kitty's after lunch - just got home when Ruby came & asked us to go to the beach - had to get bathing suit from attic - Went to Chesapeake Beach - home at 4:00 - gave Billy a bath & I took a shower - got clothes in & got supper - made our bed - sat in Ruby's backyard awhile - home about 8:30 - watched tv & wrote in diary.

Up at 6:00 - the rest got up about 7:30 - I made coffee - done last night's dishes - fried chicken for the picnic - wiped water where it had rained in - we left about 10:30 & went across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge tunnel - cost $6.55 ea. way - ate our dinner on eastern shore at a roadside table - stopped at Lynnhaven Beach on way home - Mary - Billy - Laurie & I waded in the water - we all went in Duck Inn & had drinks - came home & cleaned up a little - then went to Dowlings for awhile - had hot dogs - raw fried potatoes - green beans & cole slaw - Stayed home tonite - Ruby came over for awhile - Bed at 11:00.

Up at 8:30 - We all toured the bases this A.M. - Little Creek - Air Station & NOB - Maurell took pictures of some ships - the Forrestal & Independence - came home & ate lunch - then Hank - Maurell & Billy went down in the country to Blackwater - Pr. Anne, etc. - Mary, Laurie & I went to Janaf - went to Penny's - Dime Store & Rice's - Mary got a blouse & a planter & plants for me - It was miserably hot - home at 3:30 - wrapped Father's Day presents - The men came about 4:00 - Hank & Maurell cooked steaks outside but we ate inside due to the heat - had green beans (fresh) & summer squash & cole slaw - Mary & I went to Kitty's awhile this P.M. - we all took baths - real sticky tonight - bed at 12:00 - Had a hard rain & hard wind tonite - & a lot of lightning.
