Rained all day - real dreary
Up at 6:45 - Hank had duty today. I ironed all day off & on - made a pot of chili soup this P.M. - Hank came home for awhile this afternoon - done some sewing today also - wrote a letter to Louis Olive this A.M. -
Hank came home about 7:00 & ate some soup - done dishes after he left - watched tv until 11:00 - knitted for awhile. Bed 11:00.

Up at 6:45 - Rained all day & rained hard at times -
Billy & I went up to the Presbyterian Church this A.M. - I really liked it - I went in to Kitty's class & stayed with her - Billy liked his class real well. We went to McDonald's & ate lunch then rode out & looked at George & Gladys's lot at Great Neck Estates - home about 3:00 -
Dowlings were suppose to come out but the weather was so bad that they didn't - I fixed pizza for supper - Ruby called tonite & asked us over for coffee. We went in the car - I took what was left of the frosted creams - home at 9:00. I watched the movie "The Facts Of Life" -
Bed 11:30.

Up at 7:30 - Had bkfst. started when Hank got home - It was so cool today - seemed like heaven - I washed sheets & mattress covers - washed 4 loads plus a load of rugs - also done a lot of handwashing - Cleaned the whole house & re-arranged our bedroom - Hank mowed lawn - This A.M. Hank took Pebbles for her 3rd & final distemper shot - he pd. the bill in full - got clothes in & beds remade - went up to Overton's before supper - had hot dogs tonite - gave Billy a bath & washed his hair - I hemmed the sailor dress - pressed it & a shirt for Billy to wear to S.S. - took a shower - wrote in diary - Watched Gunsmoke -
Talked to Ruby today - first time in a week.

Had baked salmon - potato salad & cabbage for supper - Started a letter to Mom & Dad tonight - took a shower - knitted - wrote in diary. Bed 11:00.

Up at 8:00 - hot, sticky & rain-
Couldn't wash - Cleaned the house today - washed woodwork in Billy's room & re-arranged it. He stayed around me all day - didn't play with anyone. Cooked a pot of pinto beans.
Hank didn't come home all day. We all went to High's after supper & got cones - then to Colonial & got ½ gal. of ice cream.
Gave Billy a bath tonite - I fell asleep in the chair & Hank woke me up to go to bed.

Gladys - Ronnie & Cindy picked Billy up & he went to S.S. with them - I read the paper - We were home alone all day - Hank came home for awhile about 2:30 - Went down to Kitty's right after lunch - I had her help me correct a mistake I made in knitting last night - Went back to Kitty's about 5:00 - home at 6:00 - Billy & I had pot pies for supper. Watched tv - I watched the 9:00 PM movie tonite "Some Like It Hot" - Bed at 11:30.

Called Catherine - Wrote in diary - We went to Dowlings about 2:30 - took 2 pails of dirt over - had coffee & lunch there - Stayed quite awhile - fixed pizza for supper - popped corn tonite - Ruby came over & borrowed celery. We watched the movie "The Tall Men" - bed at 11:30.

Up at 7:45 - Hank didn't have to go in until about 9:00 - had to wear whites - I ironed awhile & then washed & set my hair - Hank got off about 11:00 - we ate lunch & then went to Va. Beach - Billy & I went uptown while Hank had the 18,000 mi. check made on the car - I got knitting yarn for Therza's slippers on sale for 99¢ - got cards for Tina - Sallie Mae & Mike. Billy & I walked back to Alphin Motors - Stopped at Childress Window Works & had a new glass put in the storm door - Stopped at egg factory - had breaded oysters for supper - my cold was worse tonight - Hank, Billy & I walked around the block after supper. Watched tv tonite - I started knitting Therza's slippers. Bed at 11:00.

Up at 7:00 - Hank came home about 10:00 & took me to the Commissary - Hung out 1 load of clothes before he came home - put another load in. Him & Billy went to Ship's Service & got shampoo while I got groceries -
Washed 4 loads of clothes in all - Started mowing right after lunch - got quite a lot done - picked up a bone in the back yard & it put the storm door upper glass out - glass flew all over the kitchen - cleaned that up then done some more mowing - Hank finished mowing when he came home - I got clothes in & took a shower - got supper. Gladys came down on her bicycle tonite - Watched tv awhile after she left - Went to bed at 10:00.

Up at 8:00 - We got ready - ate bkfst. at the restaurant adjoining motel - real reasonable - then went back to Sheraton-Park Hotel - had quite a time getting in touch with Clarence - couldn't get anyone to page in but finally registered as guests & got in - then had trouble finding their display - Really big affair - left about 11:30 - Drove back to Quantico & ate lunch there - Stopped at Story Book Land - I drove part of the way - got home at 6:00 - ate some soup for supper - watched tv & we all went to bed at 8:30 - Worn out tonight.

Up at 7:00 - had sausage & pancakes for bkfst. - packed one suitcase to take to Washington - had some ironing to do - cut the crelin out of my blue silk dress - took it & pink knit along - took a shower - Hank took Pebbles for 2nd distemper shot - Ate lunch here & left about 1:30 - ran into rain near Quantico - traffic came to a standstill for about an hr. due to a wreck - dark by the time we got to Alexandria - Stayed at Airport Motel - cost $14.50 for one night - bottle of whiskey broke in trunk - Ate supper at a drive-in - Called Clarence at the hotel at 7:40 our time - It was 8:40 his time - got lost on way to hotel - quite a mess - Couldn't find him for quite awhile after we got there - got together about 10:30 - Met in the lobby - Spent the evening in room belonging to Clarence's boss - had coffee - Billy was real good. Back to motel about 2:00 A.M.

Up at 7:00 - Got ready & then repacked the trunk. Hank went up to the office & pd. for our room ($60.00 for 10 days) - Left the motel at 8:00 - headed str. home - Cloudy & misting - quite cool. Ate bkfst. at the Greyhound Bus Depot in Wytheville. Stopped in Salem & got gas - went to the restrooms - Ate lunch at a drive-in in Blackstone - had hot dogs. I drove from Waverly to Dowling's - picked Pebbles up & talked to Catherine awhile - Stopped at the egg factory - got home at 6:00. Jimmy & Teeny came as soon as we drove in - Unpacked suitcases - fixed soup & sandwiches for supper - Gave Billy a bath & washed his hair - took hem out of Therza's pink dress - Clarence called about 10:00 - Said he would be in Washington at 3:45 P.M. tomorrow.

I got up at 7:00 - Took a shower & set my hair - started my P - Got Billy washed up & dressed - We went to Welad's & ate bkfst. - had sausage & eggs - Went to Damascus - got 2 records for Therza in dime store - Went out to Therza's - Hank - Therza - Billy & I went to the cemetary to Thelma's grave - rode out to the new school - Stopped at the grocery - Ate supper at Therza's - Linda's boyfriend Scott was there for supper - Therza & I ate last - done dishes - Cox's came over - We left about 7:00 - Went to Welad's tonite - Ruth Ann came over - also John Eden - had lemon pie & coffee - after John & Ruth Ann left Libb & Welad got a case (30 lbs.) butter & some cheese & rice for us - back to motel about 11:00 - done part of the packing.

Went to John & Ann Berry's before lunch - Bertha & Tom stopped there - then we went to Dixie Pottery Shop - got a casserole for Catherine & a little pitcher for myself - Went to Bristol - ate hot dogs at the Blue Circle - Went to see Aunt Liza - Went to Jo Ann's but she was gone - left a note - Went back to Abingdon & went to see Donna Marie & kids - they have a beautiful home. Rode out Rt. 19 to the mountains - Ate supper at Statzer's - Went to Jean's - Mike & Glenda were there alone - about an hour later Jo Ann & Jean came. Mike can only stand or lay - he's in a cast from chest to heel. Went out to Welad's - had cherry pie & coffee.

Up at 7:30 - latest we slept since being here - I took a shower - got ready & packed everything up so they could move us - Got to Therza's about 9:00 & she got our bkfst. - Hank & Billy went fishing - came back at 2:30 - I stayed with Therza & Linda - we went to Damascus - to the Post Office - beauty shop etc. - had a pizza for dinner. Washed out some of my pants this P.M. - Ate supper at Therza's - Went back to motel about 5:00 - They had moved us into #1. Changed clothes - Took 1 load of white clothes & went to the Laundromat - Went to Prater's tonite - had a nice visit. Bertha was up at Jean's when we got there & Prater had to attend a Chamber of Commerce meeting - We left about 10:30 - Back to Motel.

Left about 11:30 & went to Damascus - looked around in 10¢ store - Ate lunch in the drugstore - went to Therza's for awhile - then went down to Bertha & Tom's - Hank - Billy - Tommy & I went up to Carol's for awhile - Libb & Welad - Carol, Mac & Roger - & Hank & I were all there for supper - She had such a good supper - left about 9:15 - went to the motel - the lady there told us she wanted to move us tomorrow from No. 6 down to No. 2 - had a drink & went to bed at 10:30.

Ate lunch there & then Welad's took us for a ride - ended up at Bristol - ate supper at Trayer's in Bristol - real good food. Stopped at Piggly Wiggly in Abingdon - ran into Jean Richardson & Prater. Back to Welad's at 7:30 - Watched tv - washed Billy up & put warmer clothes on him - it turned real cool tonite. Went to Libb's folks for awhile. Back to Welad's & had coffee - left Welad's at 10:30 - had a couple drinks & wrote in diary.

Met Bertha up at Welad's place at 1:00. Went downtown to get candy to take to S. Mae - Therza & I got out - ran into Greer. S. Mae was so tickled to see Hank - left there at 3:00. S. Mae was pitiful - makes some sense but can tell she isn't right. Billy stayed with Linda Ann while we went. I was so sleepy tonight I couldn't stay awake - back to the motel about 10:00 - I went str. to bed.

Went to Therza's this A.M. & ate bkfst. - Stayed there all day & for supper - Went to Damascus - Therza - Layton, Billy & I went to drugstore & grocery store - Stopped in to see Mark's folks - Hank got a roast & took to Therza for supper - Bertha & Tom came over & stayed for supper - had watermelon later - We stopped at Welad's on the way home - Libb was ironing - Back to motel about 10:00.

Up at 6:45 - Hank & I took showers - got ready - washed Billy up - Went to Welad's & I fixed our bkfst. there - washed dishes - Went to Therza's - was there for lunch - She gave me 4 dresses - 1 pr. of knee pants in seersucker - & a pr. of culottes - back to Welad's - Hank & Billy went on bus run with Welad - I stayed in the lunchroom with Libb - Joan came out - rode with us back to motel & we got long pants & sweaters - went back to Welad's & we all went on a picnic to Backbone Rock - David - Ruth Ann - Betty & Mrs. Minton - & another couple - also Jo Ann & Welad & Libb - had a real good supper - left at 9:00. We came str. back to the motel - wrote in diary. - finished letter to Mom & Dad.

Sunny -
Up at 5:45 - Hank went to the base & ck'd. out - I made beds - str. up the house - got bkfst. & fixed coffee & lunch to take along - left at 7:35. Heavy traffic by Lansdale Traffic Circle - came down Rt. 58 - ate lunch at a Roadside Park - thick with yellow jackets - I dropped the Treet on the ground - Stopped along the road near Lovers' Leap to see some animals & a llama spit all over Billy & me - ate our supper at a Drive In in Chilhowie - ck'd into Virginia Hills Motel about 6:15 - have to pay $6.00 per night ($60.00 total) - then went to Welad's - they were all sitting in the yard - David & one of his buddies were there also - spent the evening at Welad's - had watermelon - got back to motel at 10:15 - Billy was asleep before we got back.

Up at 7:10 daylight time - 6:10 St. Time - Washed 4 loads of clothes - had some things to starch - Washed & set my hair - messed all day getting things together for going - got a cooked dinner about 2:30 - Hank fixed steak & hot dogs on the grill - had some mending to do - Ruby & Kitty both came over - Took Pebbles over to Dowlings & left her - Stopped at BeLo - Ironed when we got home - packed suitcases, etc. tonight - gave Billy a bath & I took a shower - went to bed at 10:15.
