Billy's Birthday -
Baked Billy's birthday cake this A.M. - Double Dutch Devils Food - made 7 minute icing - made it into a loaf cake so I could get the train on it - decorated it. Called Betty Smith & Mrs. Pipkin to invite kids to the party. Little Adrian came up while we were eating bkfst. - Kitty came after him. Gladys called - Ruby called this A.M. at 8:00 & said they were leaving for N.C. - We agreed to keep Pam - Wrapped Billy's gift - Hank got him a fishing pole. Had the party outside about 2:30 - Kitty, Gladys & Betty Smith were here - also Cindy, Kathy Smith, Teenie, Mark, Scott & Roxanne Pipkin - Hank helped - he served the drinks. Didn't have much supper - Billy & I ate hot dogs - Gladys & Cindy came down & took Billy & I with them to Williams Farm - got cucumbers & tomatoes - Stopped at Gladys's & took half of her potatoes (78 cents). Cooked potatoes & eggs for salad - washed & set my hair - Pam stayed with Sharon Hildebrand - Billy got cards from Mom & Dad - Dowlings - Dr. Clark - Cindy - Pipkins (2) - $1.00 from Pam & Dowlings -

Thursday, July 2, 1964
Washed 2 loads of clothes this A.M. - Called C&P about phone bill & Termite Co. about holes in house - Went to Kitty's a few minutes - Billy & Adrian played together all A.M. - Cleaned the whole house today - mopped & waxed the kitchen & bathroom floors - Cleaned up tar in kitchen - living room & hall. After supper I gave Billy a bath - Went to Colonial & the drugstore - also the egg factory.

Up at 6:00 - Got bkfst. for Hank & I - George Davis picked him up at 6:45 - They are attending a funeral at sea for Fox today. Str. up house - caught up diary - Billy slept until 8:30 - We had a dental appt. at 11:00 - Stopped at Gladys's a minute on the way & I asked her about going to beach - had to wait an hr. to get in - Billy got in at 12:00 - his teeth were okay & so were mine - ate lunch at Burger Chef - Stopped in at Gladys's again & she said she would go to the beach - came home & changed - picked them up at 2:30 & went to Little Creek Beach - Ronnie went along - home at 4:30 - Gave Billy a bath & I took a shower - washed out suits - went to Ruby's after supper - sat out back - Hank got home about 9:00 - bed at 10:30 -

Hot & sticky
Up at 6:30 - Ironed this A.M. until 11:20 - then str. up the house - painted the jug by the fireplace with clear Cryst-L-Craze & a vase orange - vacuumed the bedrooms - hall - bath & kitchen this P.M. - re-arranged our room - gave Billy a bath before supper - tonite we went to Janaf - Kresge's - Grants - Singer & Giant Food. Got stuff for Billy's Birthday party - ironing cord holder - white headband - tracing wheel & groceries - Home at 9:15 - Sheehan came soon as we got home. Wrote out a couple cks. - wrote in diary - bed at 11:00.

Hank had duty
Up at 6:45 - Billy & I took Hank to work so we could have the car - wrote part of a letter to Mom & Dad this A.M. - Fixed a lunch & we went out to the base at 1:00 & ate lunch with Hank on the picnic table - he brought us home about 3:00 - done dishes & then Billy & I rode our bicycles up to Gladys's - read the paper after we got home about 5:30 - had coffee & watermelon - Ruby came over for awhile tonite - Watched tv & finished Mom & Dad's letter - bed at 10:00.

Up at 7:30 - Fixed sausage & pancakes for bkfst. - Made a rice pudding - Ruby & I went to Meixel's - I got 20 lbs. gr. bf. - Stopped at Acredale & picked up 4 steaks - wrapped meat this P.M. - baked a Lemon Cake - fixed Catherine's belt - Dowling's came about 6:00 - I was fixing pizza - they ate some with us - they stayed until 8:30 - got Billy cleaned up for bed - Watched tv & went to bed early - didn't even do the supper dishes -

Welad & Libb came -
Cleaned the bedrooms & bath this A.M. & then started mowing - done the backyard before lunch - after lunch I done the side yard - was just about finished at 3:00 when Welad & Libb drove in - I really was surprised - they didn't intend to come here when they left home - Hank was real surprised when he came home. Had fish sticks - raw fried potatoes - green beans - salad - tomatoes & biscuits - pie & coffee. Hank & Welad went gun trading after supper - got back about 9:30 - Kitty came up awhile - Libb & I visited - Got to bed at 12:30.

Up 6:30 - took Hank to work - left Billy at Ruby's - went to the Commissary - saw Mildred Munson there - home at 9:00 - went to Ruby's to get Billy & had coffee & doughnuts - Billy stayed with Ruby while I went to Ships Serv. - tried on 2 bathing suits but didn't get any - got soap & toothpaste - home at 10:45 - Gladys called - put groceries away - after lunch Ruby & Jimmy went with us to the Exchange at the Air Station - I got a Jantzen swim suit for $12.49 - went to NOB Exchange but Ruby couldn't find one - home at 3:45 - then went to Gladys's a minute & returned Cindy's doll - picked Hank up at 4:15 - Billy got home as soon as we got home - Hank done some mowing -

Up at 6:30 - Washed & set my hair this A.M. - also ironed - Ruby came over for coffee - Avon woman came at noon - Gladys & Cindy came this P.M. - Stayed until 3:00 - Hank came home while Gladys was here - After she left I laid in Billy's room & read the paper - so hot today - after supper we rode out to Meixel's but they were closed - Went to High's & got ice cream cones - home at 8:30 - gave Billy a bath & washed his hair - Watched tv - sewed button on Hank's shirt - bed at 11:00 -

Maurell's left
Hot - not quite as humid
Up at 6:30 - Got bkfst. for all of us except Billy - he was still asleep - packed a lunch for Maurell & Mary - they left at 7:55 A.M. - I felt real bad today - felt so lost & depressed - cried nearly all A.M. - Washed 3 loads - went to Ruby's for coffee - Hank home for lunch - Billy & I went to Kitty's after lunch - just got home when Ruby came & asked us to go to the beach - had to get bathing suit from attic - Went to Chesapeake Beach - home at 4:00 - gave Billy a bath & I took a shower - got clothes in & got supper - made our bed - sat in Ruby's backyard awhile - home about 8:30 - watched tv & wrote in diary.

Up at 6:00 - the rest got up about 7:30 - I made coffee - done last night's dishes - fried chicken for the picnic - wiped water where it had rained in - we left about 10:30 & went across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge tunnel - cost $6.55 ea. way - ate our dinner on eastern shore at a roadside table - stopped at Lynnhaven Beach on way home - Mary - Billy - Laurie & I waded in the water - we all went in Duck Inn & had drinks - came home & cleaned up a little - then went to Dowlings for awhile - had hot dogs - raw fried potatoes - green beans & cole slaw - Stayed home tonite - Ruby came over for awhile - Bed at 11:00.

Up at 8:30 - We all toured the bases this A.M. - Little Creek - Air Station & NOB - Maurell took pictures of some ships - the Forrestal & Independence - came home & ate lunch - then Hank - Maurell & Billy went down in the country to Blackwater - Pr. Anne, etc. - Mary, Laurie & I went to Janaf - went to Penny's - Dime Store & Rice's - Mary got a blouse & a planter & plants for me - It was miserably hot - home at 3:30 - wrapped Father's Day presents - The men came about 4:00 - Hank & Maurell cooked steaks outside but we ate inside due to the heat - had green beans (fresh) & summer squash & cole slaw - Mary & I went to Kitty's awhile this P.M. - we all took baths - real sticky tonight - bed at 12:00 - Had a hard rain & hard wind tonite - & a lot of lightning.

Maurell & Mary got here about 11:00 - hadn't been here long when Hank got home - Hunter brought him - Ate dinner about 1:30 - We all rode down to Sears Warehouse - then went to the base - went to the Commissary - they waited outside while I went in & got milk - sausage & cottage cheese & orange juice - rode around on the base awhile - Stopped at Bayside - Mary & I went in the drugstore - dimestore & Colonial - had hamburgers - potato salad & toss salad for supper - Mary & I went to Ruby's a few minutes after supper - Called Mom & Dad tonite to let them know Maurell & Mary were here -
Bed about 11:00 - Rained pretty hard tonite -
