Libb was off work today - Stayed there until after lunch - then Hank, Billy & I went to Abingdon - stopped at the drugstore & saw Jean - got a Birthday gift for Sallie Mae - went to Sallie Mae's & had cake, ice cream & coffee - Welad & Libb came later on - also Jo Ann & then Gilbert - from there we went to Therza's & spent the night.

Got up early - Hank & I got ready to go - Billy was sick when he got up - I gave him 2 aspirins & he laid down for awhile - We left about 8:15 - he was sick all the way - laid down most of the way - we got to Welad's about 8:30 - took Billy to a doctor in Abingdon - I got into a fight with the dr. went by the 4-H camp - home about 11:15 - I slept with Billy on the roll-away in the living room - he asked for water all night.

Up at 6:45 - Hank & Welad had left for Smithfield - Billy was still asleep - I finished Mom & Dad's letter - folded yesterday's clothes - washed 2 loads - done the dry ironing - Billy got up about 9:00 - Hank got up about 9:15 - Ate bkfst. - hung out clothes - Clinedinst came - finished the ironing this A.M. - After lunch we went to GEX - I got lipstick - socks for Billy & some kitchen terry cloth towels & one apron to give away when we go to Abingdon - also foot-eez for myself - went to Penny's & got sheets & pillow cases for Tina - got 2 pr. for twin beds - home about 3:45 - put the ironing away - got clothes in & folded - read part of Grundy paper - We went to Gibson's & ate supper - When we got home I sewed on Billy's shirt - went over to Ruby's for awhile - home at 9:00 - gave Billy a bath - made buttonholes in his shirt & sewed buttons on - took a shower.

Ate about 5:15 - done dishes & then I went to Janaf - Welad, Hank & Billy stayed home - I went to Penny's - got a pr. of knee knockers & blouse to match - white shorts - 3 pr. of pants - 1 bra & a half slip - also 4 pr. of shorts for Billy - Stopped by Gladys's on way home but didn't go in as she was leaving - home at 9:30 - Jim was here - started a letter to Mom & Dad - bed at 12:00.

Up at 7:30 - Dampened last batch of clothes - took hem out of yellow dress - put pinto beans to soak - washed Aunt Freda's blanket - done the ironing I dampened down last Sat. night - done some handwashing - picked strawberries & weeded them - got a zucchini squash in - after lunch I done bkfst. & lunch dishes - laid down with Billy but he never went to sleep - got up & hemmed my straight blue skirt (shortened it) - starightened up the house. Welad called from the Jungle - I called Hank & told him to pick him up there - sorted the potatoes & got clothes in - For supper we had raw fried potatoes - flounder - pinto beans - sliced tomatoes & cucumbers - Hank planted more beans while I done dishes - then I weeded in the flowerbed - Hank & Welad went to a gun shop - I went to Ruby's for awhile - home at 9:00 - gave Billy a bath & cleaned the bathroom - shortened my yellow dress - wrote in diary.

Took a shower after lunch - Catherine called & said they would be out - I laid down & put Billy asleep - got up & got dressed - read the Grundy paper - C & Fred came about 4:00 - Stayed until 8:00 - We had the rest of Billy's birthday cake & ice cream & coffee - When they left I done dishes - then Jim & us went to Burger Chef near Lynnhaven & had hamburgers - home at 9:45 - Read the Sunday paper.

Hank came home for lunch - We stayed here all day - had an early supper (pork chops - potatoes & gravy - summer squash - corn - rolls - & coffee) - then we went through the bases & rode thro' town - Stopped at Janaf - People's Drug - got Billy some stuff for his birthday.

Up at 7:00 - Made coffee - wrote in diary for past week - Billy didn't want to go to Sunday School - Baked a chocolate cake - made potato salad & deviled eggs - we cooked out - had hamburgers - summer squash - deviled eggs & potato salad - Dowlings Carol & Ivan came before we finished eating - had cake - coffee & ice cream for them. They stayed until 8:00 - done dishes when they left - then rode thru Aragonna Village & looked at some houses Dowling's were interested in - Stopped by the base.

Worked on the living room floor all day - got it all mopped & waxed - Billy had to stay in all day - Hank got off early this P.M. - gave the north end the second coat of wax after supper - then we laid the rugs - had to cut the pads to fit - cleaned the tar off part of the furniture & moved part of it back. Worked until 11:00 -

Started scraping tar on the living room floor this A.M. - got about 1/3 of it done & ready to wax - then I planted some flowers that Mr. Paul gave us - Mowed all of our lawn today & the back of Jim & Ruby's - Billy rode with me most of the time - We went to Carrol's & ate supper (Military Hwy.) - Took a shower tonight. Kitty came before we went to eat & we covered 4 of the dining room chairs - Hank & I done the other 2 tonight.

Made Billy a pr. of red shorts this A.M. - Transplanted some of the rose balsam from the garden to the bed by the garage - dampened down a bag of clothes - Pat & the kids came about 12:00 - Stayed until 3:30 - After she left I done dishes - fixed macaroni & cheese - salmon cakes & lima beans for supper. Went to GEX tonight & looked at rugs - then went to Penny's - got 2 9X12 at Penny's for $36.00 ea. & 2 pads for $4.88 ea. Moved some furniture when we got home & got it ready to scrape tar.

Anne Plaza - I got 2 Buster Brown T shirts for Billy - went to Miller's - I got 2 sets of towels & wash cloths - then went to GEX & looked at rugs - took Catherine home - Hank was waiting when we went to pick him up - got clothes in when we got home - fixed hash from left over roast - Hoed in the garden tonight.

Up at 7:30 - Billy slept until 9:00 - Cut out 3 pr. of shorts for Billy & 2 shirts. Hank got off at noon - after lunch we went to Sears - I got material for the chairs - new curtains for our bedroom - 2 outfits for Billy - went to Center Shops & seen about the sewing machine - also looked at braided rugs - rode thro' town - Stopped at Pep Boys - Stopped at Burger Chef for cold drinks - Mrs. Ranhorne came over when we got home - Hank & Billy went to the store before supper - when they got home Hank slammed the car door on Billy's finger (left hand) really hurt him - he screamed for a long time - I didn't eat - neither did Billy. Hank took Mr. Paul somewhere then went to Hayes - Billy & I went to Kitty's for awhile - made buttonholes in his yellow p.j.'s - sewed buttons on - run 2 loads of wash through -

Up at 6:20 - made coffee & I ate cereal - got Billy up at 7:00 - Took Hank to work & Billy stayed with him while I went to the Commissary - home at 8:45 - Hank helped unload groceries then went back to work - I fed Billy his bkfst. - done dishes - picked up things - then mowed from 10:00 until 1:30 - stopped once & took the bird stand back to Ruby - mowed all except the back behind the house - couldn't find Billy - Kitty found him behind Paul's - ate lunch at 1:30 - Billy slept until almost 5:00 - I done lunch dishes - cleaned the blinds above the sink - also the window frame - put the curtains up - had fish - scalloped corn & scalloped potatoes for supper - weeded part of the flower bed after supper - Went to High's about 9:00 & got ice cream cones - Took a shower - placed a call to Swede & Issy but never got them.

Up at 8:00 - Hank had duty last night so he wasn't here. - Washed the kitchen curtains - cleaned the house - cleaned the blind at the back kitchen window - Went to Ruby's for a few minutes at lunchtime - talked to Mrs. Ranhorne quite awhile this P.M. - After supper I planted 2 more rows of green beans - Turned cool tonight. A man came this noon to check the sewing machine & it sewed perfect - couldn't do a thing with it tonight. Gave Billy a bath - he stayed up until 10:00.

Billy & I started mowing lawn when he left - mowed until 1:30 - ate lunch then went back out & mowed until Hank came home about 3:30 - I got it almost done - except for in front of the house - also some trimming with the push mower - took a shower before supper - done some hand trimming after supper - went to High's & got ice cream cones - gave Billy a bath - watching Alfred Hitchcock when Ray came in & took a shower - left again - wrote to Mom & Dad but didn't finish it. Bed at 12:00.

Worked on windows, storms & screens all day - got them done all over the house. Went to Kitty's for awhile this A.M. - Billy stayed with me real good. Vacuumed the kitchen - When Hank came home he said Ray was coming out for supper & to spend the night. I fixed hamburger, french fries & beans. Ate about 6:30 - left the dishes & Hank, Billy & I went to GEX - got dad a pipe rack for Father's Day - also got iron pills for myself & vitamins for Billy - Stopped at Aragona Drug Store & got cokes - home at 10:00. Ray stayed here & sewed while we were gone. Done dishes when we got home - wrote a note to Buster & Gladys -

Wednesday, June 5, 1963

Washed this A.M. - cleaned the living room back window inside & out - also storms - kitchen windows & doors inside & out - washed the screens - also part of Billy's windows. Maynard came out at noon & looked at the kitchen sink - Hank came home. I worked on windows all day - Billy didn't have anyone to play with as Ruby & Jimmy went to No. Carolina this A.M. -

Tuesday, June 4, 1963

Sunny - warm
Up at 7:10 - Didn't do a thing - felt so worn out. Billy slept until 8:30 - I wrote a letter to Tina - we were eating bkfast when the men came to pump out the grease trap - Hank came home when I called him - They said it was alright so the trouble is in the pipe behind the cupboards - Hank ate lunch & then went back - he came home again this P.M. & fixed the leaks in the roof - I went to Ruby's to get Billy for a nap - stayed awhile - Put Billy asleep - then I put chicken on for supper -
finished waxing the tile -
picked strawberries after supper - very few - tried to make buttonholes & the machine acted up - went to Ruby's & got Billy - gave him a bath - I took a shower & cleaned the bathroom - Wrote in diary

Up at 8:00 - Hank didn't call me when he went to work - didn't do much - made Billy's p.j. bottoms - finished the top except for buttonholes - Jimmy came over this afternoon & stayed while Ruby went to the bank. I waxed the refrig. & stove & part of the kitchen tile - Ruby was here for coffee this P.M. - Fixed beef stew for supper - Ruby came over after supper - watched tv tonight & read the Grundy paper - Done the hand sewing on Billy's p.j.'s -

Sunday, June 2, 1963

Steady rain all morning - & all day 6.78 in.
Up at 9:30 - Straightened up the house - baked an apple pie. Didn't get out at all - poured down rain. It leaked in the living room in 2 places - put pails under it & Hank put some up in the attic. Fixed pizza pie about 2:30 - Billy & I took a nap - didn't get up until 6:20 - had a snack about 8:00 - watched tv & read the paper -

Saturday, June 1, 1963

Sunny - windy & cool -
Billy & I were still in bed when Hank got off duty at 8:00. Fixed pancakes for breakfast - Washed & set my hair this A.M. - Started to clean the living room before lunch - Ruby came over & we had to hunt up Jimmy & Billy. They were at Munson's. After lunch I finished the cleaning - Re-arranged the dining room table & chairs - Hank finished mowing the lawn. The mower broke down twice. Billy didn't take a nap. Jim & Ruby came over late afternoon - when they left about 6:00 I took a shower. We went to Frankie's & ate supper - Stopped at Colonial - went to the egg factory - home at 8:30 - Didn't bathe Billy - Watched tv - went to bed at 11:00.
