Didn't do much today - afraid to wash because of the weather - Up at 6:45. Shortened my new red dress ¾". Billy & I went down to Kitty's this A.M. - Ruby came over before lunch - Started raining this P.M. - Kitty came up this afternoon. Catherine & Gladys called - Hot dogs for supper & left-overs from yesterday. Poured down rain tonite - Lansden & his boy came to work on the tv - stayed until about 10:30 waiting on the rain to let up but it never did - flooded the garage - water stood all over it. We brought Pebbles in the kitchen & let her sleep in a basket. Went to bed about 11:30. Shortened my jamaica skirt tonite.

Washed 2 loads of white clothes (both beds) also the kitchen & bathroom curtains - plus one at back living room door - cleaned windows in kitchen & living room door inside & out - also back kitchen window inside & out - & washed venetian blind at back window - I shot Flinchum's police dog this A.M. & hit him - he yelped all the way home & worried about it the rest of the day - it made me half-sick - Called Dr. Johnson's office & made an appt. with Dr. Holland for 3:00 P.M. tomorrow - Cut the curtain off for the kitchen door & made the ruffle a little shorter - sewed a bra - Fixed a roast for supper - Billy got stung this P.M. - Read to him this P.M. - read Grundy paper - Ruby picked figs after supper & I talked to her - came in at 8:30 - gave Billy a bath - wrote in diary - Took a shower & douche & shaved my legs.

Up at 6:30 - Took a shower - done last nights dishes - read some in baby book - fed Geo. & Pebbles - Hank & Billy got up about 8:30 - Got bkfst. & done dishes - made beds & then Billy & I got ready for S.S. & Church - Gladys - Ronnie & Cindy picked us up at 10:30 & we went to Haygood Methodist Church - Billy went in Cindy's class as a teacher didn't show up for his class - Saw a man in church who looked exactly like Maurell - Went to Olivers Farm & Williams Farm then home - was eating lunch when J.C. Clinedinst & Charles came - done dishes & made coffee for him - went to Ruby's for a few minutes - came home & read the paper - went back to Ruby's & we sat outside - came home at 6:00 & made a pizza - Watched tv tonight - bed at 10:00. Real sleepy tonite - couldn't stay awake.

Up at 8:00 - Felt real lazy this A.M. - Called Gladys - Cleaned house this A.M. - re-arranged Billy's room - Hank got home about 12:00 - he had been up all night & was worn out - After lunch he finished mowing with the pusher - had very little to do - I cleaned the living room - baked a pan of apple dumplings for supper - used a recipe from Better Homes cookbook & it turned out pretty good - also made macaroni & cheese - Hank slept until about 5:30 - after supper he helped Jim work on his mower - Billy & I went to Gladys's for awhile - I took her 9 qt. jars - a jar of plum jelly & some apple dumplings. Went to the egg factory - home at 8:30 - Gave Billy a bath & I took a shower - Watched tv - wrote in diary.

Hank had duty - I got up & took him in - Billy & I left at 8:45 & picked Gladys & Cindy up - went to Fort Story - home at 11:00 - unloaded groceries & put them away - Billy ate lunch with Jimmy - went to Overton's after lunch & got parafin - came home & made plum jelly - got 9 jars - Kitty & Mrs. Pipkin came up - Billy & I had tv dinners - Picked apples after supper - Went to Ruby's a minute - Started a letter to Mom & Dad before supper & wrote awhile after supper - Called Hank about 8:45 & went out & picked him up - he came home & ate - then went back. Billy & I watched tv - went to bed about 11:15.

Up at 7:45 - Washed 3 small loads - finished painting the outside tables & chairs - Mr. Feldt came by for some rum - Mowed part of the back yard - made potato salad & salmon salad for supper - When Hank came home I mowed some with the push mower - took a shower - gave Billy a bath after supper - planned to go to Wilder's Drive In to see "How The West Was Won" but it was filled up so we went to Ocean View Amusement Park - Billy took several rides - Hank locked the keys in the car so we got a taxi to bring us home & then Hank had to go back & get the car. He got back about 11:30.

Up at 7:15 - ate & got ready to go to North Carolina - left at 8:45 - Went to Manteo first & Hank went to the Court House & got the deed to our lot recorded - Billy & I snooped thru the 5 & 10 - Went to the Avalon Beach Fishing Pier & ate lunch there - drove down to our lot & looked around - rode up thru Southern Shores - got home at 4:30 - had dishes to do before getting supper - Betty Paul came up & got apples - got dishes done at 7:45 - Jim & Ruby came over - had coffee - Hank & Billy went after eggs - I watched the 9:00 P.M. movie - "Until They Sail." - Bed at 11:15.

Up at 6:00 - Hank had today off - I fried chicken for our picnic - got bkfst. & done dishes & packed our picnic dinner - we left at 8:45 for Nags Head - got down there about 11:00 - took Welad to see the Wright Bros. Monument - then we looked up Dowlings lot that we are planning on buying - It is located on Durham St. - went down to the picnic area at Cape Hatteras Nat'l. Pk. & ate our dinner - nice & cool there - went swimming after we ate - Welad had forgotten his suit - we had a time kidding him about women asking for the time - home at 7:30 - got supper - gave Billy a bath & then we all took baths - Called Catherine & Gladys - bed at 11:15 -

Didn't go anywhere today - I took a shower & washed & set my hair this A.M. - Billy was sick all morning - he vomited several times - Dowlings came this P.M. - Catherine - Billy & I went to Colonial - got ice cream - cookies & biscuits - for lunch I made some doughnuts out of the biscuits - they left about 7:30 - went to Jim & Ruby's for awhile - came home about 8:30 & I made a pizza - watched tv awhile - went to bed at 10:30.

I went to the Commissary & Ship's Serv. this A.M. - Gladys kept Billy - Got a necklace & earring set for Linda Ann. Came home & put groceries up. Cleaned cupboard above the stove - after lunch we picked Gladys & Cindy up - took her down to the Medical Tower & she had her eyes checked - I kept Cindy & Billy - George brought Hank to their place & then he came home with me. Had supper early - Feldt came by & him, Hank & Billy went to Ingleside to see about repairing Feldt's mower. Ruby came over for coffee - I wasn't too friendly - Watched tv & went to bed.

Up at 6:15 - Billy was having a coughing spell - went back to bed at 7:00 & slept until about 8:00 - Pam didn't get up until 9:30 - She ate here then went home - I done dishes - weeded flower bed - Hank mowed the sewer lines - Pam came back here for lunch - This P.M. we took a ride - stopped at Crawford House & Furniture Fare & window shopped - Stopped at Farm Fresh & got a watermelon - I felt bad all day - was worn out - Mrs. Ranhorne came down for awhile before supper - Hank cooked steaks out - had potatoe salad - zucchini squash - sliced tomatoes - cucumbers - steak & watermelon. Set off some firecrackers tonite - Pam stayed here - didn't get supper dishes done until 9:30 - bed at 10:30.

Up at 9:00 - acted like rain but I fixed the chicken - made potato salad & deviled eggs - finally cleared off so we packed a picnic dinner & left about 1:30 - Went down Rt. 17 - finally got a table in N.C. - the biting flys were terrible - never got to fish as it started raining - home about 5:00 - Pam came over & I took her to Overton's - done dishes - fixed Billy hot dogs - we all had cake & ice cream - Pam watched Sat. Nite Movie - I saw part of it but couldn't stay awake - I was awake half the night - slept in Billy's room & run the vaporizer all night - he had croup - was real restless.

Baked Billy's birthday cake this A.M. - Double Dutch Devils Food - made 7 minute icing - made it into a loaf cake so I could get the train on it - decorated it. Called Betty Smith & Mrs. Pipkin to invite kids to the party. Little Adrian came up while we were eating bkfst. - Kitty came after him. Gladys called - Ruby called this A.M. at 8:00 & said they were leaving for N.C. - We agreed to keep Pam - Wrapped Billy's gift - Hank got him a fishing pole. Had the party outside about 2:30 - Kitty, Gladys & Betty Smith were here - also Cindy, Kathy Smith, Teenie, Mark, Scott & Roxanne Pipkin - Hank helped - he served the drinks. Didn't have much supper - Billy & I ate hot dogs - Gladys & Cindy came down & took Billy & I with them to Williams Farm - got cucumbers & tomatoes - Stopped at Gladys's & took half of her potatoes (78 cents). Cooked potatoes & eggs for salad - washed & set my hair - Pam stayed with Sharon Hildebrand - Billy got cards from Mom & Dad - Dowlings - Dr. Clark - Cindy - Pipkins (2) - $1.00 from Pam & Dowlings -

Washed 2 loads of clothes this A.M. - Called C&P about phone bill & Termite Co. about holes in house - Went to Kitty's a few minutes - Billy & Adrian played together all A.M. - Cleaned the whole house today - mopped & waxed the kitchen & bathroom floors - Cleaned up tar in kitchen - living room & hall. After supper I gave Billy a bath - Went to Colonial & the drugstore - also the egg factory.

Up at 6:30 - Got bkfst. for all of us except Billy - he was still asleep - packed a lunch for Maurell & Mary - they left at 7:55 A.M. - I felt real bad today - felt so lost & depressed - cried nearly all A.M. - Washed 3 loads - went to Ruby's for coffee - Hank home for lunch - Billy & I went to Kitty's after lunch - just got home when Ruby came & asked us to go to the beach - had to get bathing suit from attic - Went to Chesapeake Beach - home at 4:00 - gave Billy a bath & I took a shower - got clothes in & got supper - made our bed - sat in Ruby's backyard awhile - home about 8:30 - watched tv & wrote in diary.

Up at 6:00 - the rest got up about 7:30 - I made coffee - done last night's dishes - fried chicken for the picnic - wiped water where it had rained in - we left about 10:30 & went across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge tunnel - cost $6.55 ea. way - ate our dinner on eastern shore at a roadside table - stopped at Lynnhaven Beach on way home - Mary - Billy - Laurie & I waded in the water - we all went in Duck Inn & had drinks - came home & cleaned up a little - then went to Dowlings for awhile - had hot dogs - raw fried potatoes - green beans & cole slaw - Stayed home tonite - Ruby came over for awhile - Bed at 11:00.

Anne, etc. - Mary, Laurie & I went to Janaf - went to Penny's - Dime Store & Rice's - Mary got a blouse & a planter & plants for me - It was miserably hot - home at 3:30 - wrapped Father's Day presents - The men came about 4:00 - Hank & Maurell cooked steaks outside but we ate inside due to the heat - had green beans (fresh) & summer squash & cole slaw - Mary & I went to Kitty's awhile this P.M. - we all took baths - real sticky tonight - bed at 12:00 - Had a hard rain & hard wind tonite - & a lot of lightning.

Up at 6:45 - Ironed this A.M. - Ruby came over for coffee - Went to Kitty's this A.M. but she was gone - mowed part of the lawn after lunch - went to Kitty's & took her pillow cases & perfume - came home & cleaned the steam iron - fixed scalloped potatoes - salmon & fresh green beans for supper - finished the ironing - Was getting supper about 4:00 when Maurell called - he said they were in White Sulpher Springs & would be here tomorrow morning sometime - I was shocked & tickled to death - Hank mowed before & after supper - I had just finished dishes & was talking to Gladys when John & Ann Berry & 2 girls came - They stayed until 9:00 - Hank went after groceries - I cleaned out the back bedroom - str. up house - wrote in diary - gave Billy a bath - I took a shower.

Up at 6:00 - Messed around this A.M. - Called the base about 7:30 & they still said the ship would be in at 1:00 P.M. - done dishes - cleaned strawberries - Cleaned the bathroom & straightened up the house - Holmes called - Ate lunch about 11:30 - We left about 12:05 - got to the pier (Pier 14 - Little Creek) about 12:20 - the ship came in on time at 1:00 P.M. - Finally spotted Hank waving his arms off - It was after 2:00 before he got off the ship - he really has a beautiful tan - then we went to the team & he mustered - got home about 3:00 - he thought things looked real nice - Ate supper about 5:15 - took a ride out past Lynnhaven & got cones at High's - took Jimmy along - home at 8:45 - Watched tv until 10:30 -

Went to the bank & deposited $117.00 - On the way to the base I stopped at the Post Office & mailed some letters - got new lipstick at the drugstore - went to Gladys's for awhile after lunch - then came home & done a lot of trimming - got into poison oak - gathered up garbage -
Had pot pie & tv dinner for supper - was watching Billy Graham when Ruby came - She stayed until 9:00 - Wrote in diary - Started letter to Mom & Dad -

Up at 8:15 Daylight Time (7:15 St.)
Had pancakes for bkfst. - Put away the ironing & ironing board - Cleaned the liquor cabinet out & re-arranged it - also washed our bedroom chair - woodwork in hall that was dirty - clothes hamper & our headboard - swept the porch - walks & garage - Elmo put the name on the mailbox for me - ate lunch at 2:00 - Wrote in diary - figured bank statements - went down to Smith's to ck. on Billy - went to Ruby's & had cake & coffee - She came over early this evening - Kitty brought me strawberries - didn't eat supper until 8:30 - finished figuring bank statements - bed at 11:00.

Up at 8:30 - (St. Time) - Washed 4 loads this A.M. - put too much bluing in & had to rewash first load.
Threatened rain all day & finally got light showers late afternoon - Cleaned the house from end to end - done part of the ironing this P.M. - Went to Colonial late afternoon - cashed a ck. for $10.00 & got $3.65 worth of groceries - had tv dinners for supper - & cake & ice cream - gave Billy a bath tonite - Catherine called - Watched tv - Hank called about 9:00 - said the ship got in late this afternoon but isn't scheduled to leave until Tues. & they should be home Sat. morning. Wrote to JoAnn Torbet & Therza tonite - Took a shower - bed at 11:30.

Up at 7:45 - Done a big handwashing this A.M. - Cloudy, cool & a little rain today - dampened clothes - went to Commissary this A.M. - Ruby kept Billy - Billy ate lunch with Jimmy - I stopped there on way home from Commissary - cleaned the top cupboards this P.M. - Went to Ruby's a minute - She came over for coffee - gathered up the garbage - swept out the garage - had chicken chow mein for supper - Watched tv & wrote a letter to Mom & Dad tonite - Catherine called this P.M. - bed at 11:15.

Up at 7:30 - Didn't go to Bingo with Kitty - instead we picked Catherine up & went to Sears - I got name & new number plate for mailbox - also towel pole for bathroom - ate lunch at McDonald's - Catherine was all to pieces today - She cried & cried - her nerves are real bad - I talked to Fred about it - home about 2:30 - put shoe bag on our bedroom door - put the winter clothes up in the attic - then done a lot of trimming outside until supper - trimmed again after supper until 8:00 - Watched tv & started a letter to Mom & Dad - bed at 11:00.

Up at 7:15 - Cleaned closets this A.M. - took all the winter clothes down & folded it - put part of it in drawers in back bedroom - finished weeding the flower bed by the garage - then I weeded around the front porch & all around the house - went down to Kitty's for awhile - after lunch I raked up what I weeded - finished mowing the lawn - took a shower about 4:00 - then gave Billy a bath - After his cartoons we went to Gibson's & ate supper - then went to GEX - got tennis shoes for Billy -nightgown & bra - shower curtain liner - shoe bag - modess - Geritol - vitamins for Billy - desk pad - flower & planter for our bedroom - bath mat - & book for Billy. - Home about 9:00 -

Washed 2 loads white clothes this A.M. - Raked grass in back yard - mowed back yard before lunch - laid down with Billy awhile - then finished back yard - Washed the porch furniture & picnic table & put it in back yard - swept patio & rinsed it off - went to Ruby's a few minutes - then I mowed most of the side yard - went to Overton's & got a few things - got clothes in - gathered garbage up - made the bed - wrote in diary - weeded part of flower bed after supper - Ruby came over - then Mary & Dave Holmes came - Dave took the car to get it fixed - came back at 10:00 - Ruby, Mary & I went after eggs - watched Emmy Awards after they left - bed at 11:30

I cleaned the house - Billy & I went to Kitty's - took towels to her & a knitted doillie - took a shower & then we went to Tastee Freez & ate supper - went by Dowling's but they had a lot of company for a fish fry so we didn't stop - went to Holmes's - stopped at Colonial on way home - got home about 9:00 - Gladys called - watched tv & wrote in diary.

Ironed this A.M. - then took the fence down around the strawberries - done some weeding - Went to Overton's - All afternoon I worked on clothes & drawers - Ruby helped me switch the 2 big beds - Got most of the stuff put back & the bedrooms partially straightened. After supper I raked in back yard until I couldn't see anymore - went to Ruby's & got Billy - Stayed awhile - gave Billy a bath when I got home - Ruby called - Watched tv - bed at 10:30.

Up at 7:30 - Ironed awhile this A.M. - Kept Jimmy while Ruby went to Commissary - then Ruby kept Billy while I went to the base - got a new base sticker & went to Ship's Service - got towels for Kitty & Corning ware for Ruby - soap & shampoo for myself - Stopped at Ruby's & gave the skillet to her - this P.M. I moved our chest & dresser in back room - the dresser in back room to Billy's room & Billy's dresser & chest into our room. Then I sorted stuff in drawers - Threw some stuff out - Ruby came over after supper & she took about 10 of the slips - Pam & Jimmy came too. She left about 9:00 - I wrote a letter to Mom & Dad.
Cleaned drawers in our room & got some stuff put back. Picked lawnmower up this P.M.
